- The Ramsar Convention
The Convention on Wetlands, signed in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971, is
an intergovernmental treaty which provides the framework for national
action and international cooperation for the conservation and
wise use of wetlands and their resources. There are presently
138 Contracting Parties to the Convention, with 1314 wetland sites,
totaling 111 million hectares, designated for inclusion in the
Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance.
- Green Coasts
The website of the Green Coast project, a rapid response project targeted at rehabilitating coastlines and supporting livelihoods after the 2004 tsunami. Working in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, this initiative is implemented by IUCN, WWF and Both Ends under the lead of Wetlands International and funded by Oxfam Novib. The project has improved the livelihoods of approximately 90.000 coastal inhabitants and restored thousands of hectares of mangrove and coastal forest, sand dunes and coral reefs. Bio-rights was a major tool within this project to accomplish integrated conservation and development.
- Central Kalimantan Peatland Project
The website of the Central Kalimantan Peatlands Project (CKPP). This project aims to restore degraded peat swamp forests to conserve biodiversity, curb CO2 emissions and improve peatland dependent livelihoods. The project is implemented by BOS, Care, WWF and the University of Palangka Raya under the lead of Wetlands international and funded by the Dutch ministry of foreign affairs. Activities under this initiative include blocking of drainage canals, setting up firefighting brigades, preventing illegal activities and developing sustainable income generating activities. Bio-rights is an important tool to link socio-economic and environmental aspects in the second phase of this project.
- Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD)
The Foundation for Sustainable Development focuses on a range of issues related to Bio-rights, including valuation of environmental services, socio-economic aspects of nature conservation and development and assessment of innovative financing mechanisms. It serves as a platform for professionals working on these issues and provide a large database with case experiences from a variety of projects.
